HALLOWEEN IS COMING SOON, DON’T GET CAUGHT WITHOUT A COSTUME! CHECK IT OUT AS OUR ATTIC EMPLOYEE, IVY, GIVES US SOME TIPS ON HOW TO MAKE A UNIQUE COSTUME FOR A SMALL AMOUNT OF MONEY! DON’T FORGET TO ENTER OUR COSTUME CONTEST, WE WANNA SEE WHAT YOU’RE GONNA BE!
Halloween, the time of year when no one can stop you from being whatever you would like to be. However, sometimes costumes can get a little expensive. Although, it seems easier to buy a prepackaged costume, it is often cheaper and more fun to make your own. Most likely, you already have some costume items lying around your house already! Don’t forget to check your attic, ask your friends, and check they’re attics.
A homemade costume takes some time to acquire your items but don’t get discouraged. Depending on what the item is, you may be able to find what you need at any local thrift store like Goodwill, Salvation Army, or a Via Thrift Store. You might find a dress that would be perfect for an Annie costume and from there you only need a short curly wig, white socks, and black flats or tap shoes. The Attic also has you covered in terms of cheaper costumes. When putting together a costume for display, we try to use one actual costume item and from there be creative with the rest. Check out our examples below for ideas. Regular every day clothing items are often perfect for any costume. Once you have one item, you can create the rest using accessories to complete the whole look.
Also, remember that altering an item is an option so don’t put anything down that doesn’t fit you perfectly (unless they are shoes because in that case, you can’t really shove your feet into a smaller shoe). If sewing isn’t really your thing, safety pins are the next best thing! They’re easy to hide and they work just as well. Accessories are also easy to find at any costume shop, the toy section at a Walmart, or there is always Toys R’ Us. However, if you’re looking for something unique, stop into any of our Attic locations. We’ve got a great selection of costume jewelry for great prices.
